RAHIM YAR KHAN: Hours after Punjab Police carried out a major operation against dacoits in the Kacha area, heavily armed bandits launched a violent attack late at night on the M-5 Motorway, opening fire on passing vehicles, injuring several people and kidnapping at least five more.
The development came shortly after Punjab Police announced that it had conducted a large-scale operation in Kacha Ronti using modern technology. Police said multiple hideouts and shelters of dacoits were destroyed with the help of drones, and several bandits were reportedly injured. The targeted operation, led by DPO Rahim Yar Khan Irfan Ali Sammo, aimed to secure the release of hostages and tighten the noose around criminal gangs entrenched in the riverine belt.
Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar said the force was “actively using drone technology not only to assist flood victims but also to eliminate criminal elements from Kacha.”
Despite the official claims of success, the retaliatory attack on the motorway underscores the resilience of heavily armed gangs operating in southern Punjab’s Kacha region, raising fresh questions about the scale of the challenge faced by law enforcement.
