ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has announced significant progress in the active pursuit of cases, highlighting both enforcement actions and financial recoveries over the past year.

According to the CCP, its strengthened legal department has expedited litigation, leading to the resolution of 50 percent of cases pending in courts. Out of 567 cases under litigation, the number has now dropped to 280.

The commission reported that, as a result of these court decisions, Rs410 million in fines have been successfully recovered. During the current year alone, the CCP issued 14 rulings against cartels, imposing penalties exceeding Rs1 billion.

The watchdog further stated that it has concluded 20 inquiries into cartelisation and abuse of dominance, in addition to finalising 18 inquiries related to deceptive marketing practices.

The CCP reaffirmed its resolve to continue acting against anti-competitive practices in order to ensure fair market competition and protect consumer interests.
