Afghanistan’s opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran, who played a historic innings against England in the ICC Champions Trophy, has broken several records.
Despite early wickets falling early during the eighth match of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Lahore, Afghan opener Ibrahim Zadran broke his record by playing an innings of 177 runs off 146 balls.
Previously, Ibrahim Zadran also held the record for the highest individual score by an Afghan batsman, who set it by playing an innings of 162 runs against Sri Lanka in 2022.
During the ICC World Cup 2023 in India, Ibrahim Zadran played an innings of 129 runs against Australia and was the first batsman to score a century for Afghanistan in the World Cup. In the previous match against England, he also became the first batsman to score a century in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Apart from this, this is the highest individual score in the history of the Champions Trophy, a few days ago, English batsman Ben Duckett had broken a 21-year-old record, but Ibrahim snatched this record from him in a few days.

English batsman Ben Duckett played an innings of 165 runs with the help of 3 sixes and 17 fours, before that this record was held by a New Zealand player. Former New Zealand player Nathan Astle scored 145 runs against the USA team in the 2004 Champions Trophy, while Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower played an innings of 145 runs against India in 2002.
In addition, Ibrahim Zadran also broke the record of legendary Indian batsman and former captain Kapil Dev, who held the record for playing the highest individual innings in ICC events.
Kapil Dev played an innings of 175 runs against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup, however, the Afghan batter has now become the second Asian batsman on this list, the first being former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who played an innings of 183 runs against Sri Lanka in the 1999 World Cup.
