Providing the best travel facilities to the public is the top priority of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and this commitment has been widely appreciated by the citizens of Islamabad. Chairman CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and DG Civil Defense Muhammad Ali Randhawa expressed gratitude for the public’s trust, noting that about 85,000 passengers travel daily on CDA’s 160 electric air-conditioned buses. He emphasized that CDA is dedicated to providing modern, comfortable, eco-friendly, and accessible transportation for all residents of the federal capital.
To maintain and further improve travel facilities, the CDA has taken significant measures. Currently, the city benefits from 30 Orange Line buses, 10 Blue Line buses, 10 Green Line buses, and 160 electric buses. These services have been made possible through subsidies, showcasing CDA’s commitment to enhancing Islamabad’s urban infrastructure. Even with a fare of Rs 50 per capita, the CDA was spending Rs 5.12 billion annually to provide these travel facilities, with revenue only amounting to Rs 1.46 billion. As a result, CDA had to offer a subsidy of Rs 3.66 billion every year to maintain these services.
With the implementation of a new fare of Rs 100 per capita, the revenue is expected to increase to Rs 2.33 billion, yet a substantial subsidy of Rs 2.79 billion will still be required to sustain the operational stability and quality of the services. The fare adjustment is a necessary step to maintain and improve the travel facilities for Islamabad’s citizens and to ensure the long-term trust and confidence of the public. The additional revenue generated will support the regular maintenance of comfortable and eco-friendly buses, increase the number of buses, expand the routes, reduce waiting times, and further improve cleanliness, safety, and the overall passenger experience on all routes.
It is particularly noteworthy that, despite the fare adjustment, CDA will still bear more than 54 percent of the total expenses, which reflects a clear commitment to equitable access and sustainable transport for all citizens. According to Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, this initiative aligns with CDA’s vision of creating a modern, comfortable, and comprehensive transport network that reduces traffic jams, offers discount packages for regular passengers, promotes environmental protection through electric mobility, and introduces convenient fare payments via credit cards.
CDA is utilizing all available resources to make Islamabad a city that combines development, prosperity, and beauty through a state-of-the-art transport network. Under the leadership of Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, CDA is taking practical steps to build an eco-friendly, peaceful, and well-connected city. CDA also extended its gratitude to the citizens for their trust and cooperation, assuring them that addressing their needs and concerns remains a top priority, with all resources dedicated to improving the travel facilities and overall infrastructure of the city.
