The Speaker of the National Assembly send recommendations for a 140% increase in the salaries of the Senate and National Assembly members to the Prime Minister.
According to Sources of The INQUIRER, a meeting of the Finance Committee of Parliament was held under the chairmanship of Speaker of National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to prepare the recommendations.It was decided in the meeting that the salaries of the members of parliament would be made equal to those of the members of Punjab.
At present, the salary of a member of parliament is Rs 218,000 and the Speaker of the National Assembly has recommended increasing this salary to Rs 519,000.
Sources said that after the approval of the Prime Minister, the matter of increasing the salaries will be sent to the relevant standing committees of both houses.
It should be noted that after the approval of the Public Representatives Salaries Revision Bill 2024 in the Punjab Assembly on December 16, 2024, the salary of the MPA was increased from Rs 76,000 to Rs 400,000 and the salary of the minister was increased from Rs 100,000 to Rs 960,000.
Similarly, the salary of the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly was increased from Rs 120,000 to Rs 775,000 and the salary of the Parliamentary Secretary was increased from Rs 83,000 to Rs 451,000, while the salary of the Chief Minister’s Advisor was increased from Rs 100,000 to Rs 665,000. The salary of the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab was also increased from Rs 100,000 to Rs 665,000.
