President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif awarded Army Chief General Asim Munir the Baton of Field Marshal, an honor bestowed upon him in recognition of his unparalleled leadership and invaluable services to the defense of the country.
The ceremony held at the Presidential Palace was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Similarly, members of the federal cabinet, service chiefs, provincial governors, chief ministers, and a large number of members of parliament, foreign diplomats, and civil and military officials were also present at the ceremony.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif conferred the Baton of Field Marshal on General Asim Munir. This honor was given to him in recognition of his unparalleled leadership and valuable services for the defense of the country.
The President of Pakistan said in his address that the purpose of today’s ceremony is to pay tribute to the brave sons of the nation. The entire nation is proud of its brave armed forces. The honor of Field Marshal to Syed Asim Munir is a proud moment. I was very happy to be approved to confer the honor of Field Marshal.
He said that during the battle of truth, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir led from the front, the entire nation stood by its brave forces against the enemy, our strong response proved our capability to the world, Pakistan is a peace advocate but the desire for peace should not be considered weakness.
President Asif Ali Zardari said that we know how to defend the beloved homeland, may Allah Almighty keep the defenders of the beloved homeland in His protection and safety.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that today is a historic and proud day, we recognize the services of our heroes, our military leadership achieved an unprecedented and historic victory against the enemy, gave a strong and effective response that forced the enemy to kneel.
He said that the Pakistani forces crushed the enemy’s arrogance, during the tense situation, the passion and determination of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was exemplary, we pay tribute to the services of the Field Marshal for the beloved homeland.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the role of Field Marshal is very important for the country’s sovereignty and security. Field Marshal Asim Munir played a leading role during Operation Banyan Marsus. Field Marshal Asim Munir, the brave son of the nation, created new history.
