The Islamabad Police have reported the killing of the prime suspect involved in the attack that led to the martyrdom of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ali Akbar, following an armed confrontation in the Sabzi Mandi area.
According to the police spokesperson, a routine checkpoint set up by officers in the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station came under heavy fire when five armed suspects on three motorcycles opened fire as soon as they spotted the police team. The officers, protected by bulletproof vests and following safety protocols, remained unharmed during the exchange.
One of the suspects was critically injured by gunfire from his own accomplices amid the chaos. He was shifted to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police confirmed that the deceased was the central figure in the attack on martyred ASI Ali Akbar, and the officer’s official pistol was recovered from his possession.
Two other suspects were arrested at the scene, while weapons and two motorcycles were seized. Police said one of the recovered motorcycles had been snatched earlier within the limits of Shams Colony Police Station.
A search operation is underway to track down the remaining accomplices as Islamabad Police intensify efforts against armed criminal gangs operating in the capital.
