Beijing – Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday held a series of high-level meetings in Beijing to advance Pakistan–China financial cooperation. He met Dr Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), and Mr Liao Lin, Chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
In his meeting with the PBOC Governor, the minister conveyed appreciation for China’s longstanding political, diplomatic and economic support. He briefed Dr Pan on Pakistan’s recent economic performance, the government’s reform agenda and the improvement in international credit ratings. Mr Aurangzeb underlined the role of the PBOC in strengthening bilateral financial cooperation and supporting Pakistan through multilateral engagements.
The finance minister also met ICBC Chairman Liao Lin, where he expressed gratitude for the bank’s support in development financing, commercial facilities and the refinancing of existing obligations. He noted that ICBC’s strong presence in Pakistan reflected the deepening economic partnership between the two countries and discussed prospects for enhanced cooperation in investment, trade financing and financial diversification.
Mr Aurangzeb said Pakistan’s reform programme aimed to deliver long-term stability and sustainable growth. He stressed that collaboration with Chinese financial institutions was vital not only to meet immediate financing needs but also to support diversification, financial innovation and regional integration. He further highlighted Pakistan’s interest in accessing Chinese onshore markets as part of efforts to broaden investment avenues and strengthen market confidence.
Both sides agreed that the Pakistan–China partnership had entered a new phase, with opportunities to expand cooperation across banking, investment and capital markets. The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to consolidating these opportunities by creating an enabling environment for investment, building resilient financial structures and pursuing reforms that widen the scope of bilateral cooperation.
He expressed confidence that the meetings would help chart a stronger roadmap for collaboration and ensure that Pakistan–China ties continue to contribute to regional stability, development and shared prosperity.
