ISLAMABAD: The South Asian Journalists Federation (SAJF) has strongly condemned the killing of journalists in Gaza, where dozens of media professionals have lost their lives while reporting from the conflict zone. In a statement, SAJF President Geetartha Pathak said the targeting of journalists was “an assault on the very pillars of democracy,” stressing that journalism remains a vital yet vulnerable profession. “The targeting of journalists in Gaza is an assault on the very pillars of democracy. Journalism is a vital profession that faces immense risks, and such violence undermines the public’s right to know. We stand united in demanding justice and protection for our colleagues,” he said.

SAJF Secretary General Shakeel Ahmed echoed the concern, describing the loss of media workers as a loss for humanity. “Journalists are the voice of truth in conflict zones, and their loss is a loss for humanity. We call for immediate investigations, accountability for perpetrators, and robust measures to ensure the safety of media workers in Gaza and beyond,” he stated. The federation expressed solidarity with the families and colleagues of the slain journalists, urging the international community to act swiftly. SAJF called for impartial investigations, accountability for those responsible, and urgent global measures to ensure the safety of journalists working in conflict zones. It further appealed to all parties to respect the crucial role of the media and safeguard those who risk their lives to report the truth.
