Islamabad – National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday held an important meeting at Parliament House, underscoring the need for stronger institutional cooperation between Pakistan’s upper and lower houses of Parliament.
During the meeting, Chairman Senate briefed the Speaker on preparations for the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan later this year. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq welcomed the initiative, noting that the National Assembly Secretariat would extend “all-out support” to ensure its successful organization.
The conference, expected to take place in November 2025, will bring together representatives from more than 45 countries, who will deliberate on pressing global themes including peace, sustainable development, and contemporary international challenges. Speaker Sadiq described the gathering as a “positive step for Pakistan’s parliamentary diplomacy and global engagement.”
On a personal note, the Speaker also offered condolences to Chairman Senate on the passing of his brother, Syed Tanveer ul Hassan Gilani, praying for his eternal peace and remembering him as “a man of noble character.”
The two leaders also exchanged views on Pakistan’s prevailing political and economic situation, as well as the devastating floods caused by excessive water discharge from India. Expressing concern over the humanitarian and agricultural losses, both urged citizens to adopt safety precautions and assured that protecting human lives, livestock, and property remained the government’s foremost priority.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani further emphasized the role of Parliament in fostering national unity during testing times, pledging closer coordination between both chambers to address challenges at home and abroad.
