Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists has strongly condemned the filling of cases against senior women journalists Nayyar Ali, Sehrish Qureshi, Maira Imran and Shakeela Jalil under PECA Act.

RIUJ President Tariq Ali Virk, General Secretary Asif Bashir Chaudhry, Finance Secretary Nadeem Chaudhry and members of the executive council have said that PECA Act is a black law against which journalists from all over Pakistan are protesting. He said that a case was registered against senior journalists Secretary National Press Club Nayyar Ali, Joint Secretary Sehrish Qureshi, former Vice President Maira Imran and former Joint Secretary Shakeela Jalil under the PECA Act, which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances because the Press Club receives applications from oppressed journalists from all over Pakistan, which are considered and discussed and then an attempt is made to resolve their issues.

RIUJ leaders have further said that listening to a woman journalist’s complaint against her own husband has become a crime for these journalist leaders. RIUJ leadership has demanded from the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Interior Minister that the case registered against senior women journalists under the black law PECA Act be immediately dismissed and action be taken against the FIA officials and the applicant who illegally registered the case, otherwise, there will be a strong protest.
