In a significant development in the fight against corruption, the Special Judge Central Rawalpindi has handed down a historic verdict, sentencing accused Hamid Jalil to 29 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2.1 million on the accused, alongside an order to pay compensation amounting to over Rs 21.5 million to the Pakistan Postal Department.
The case, registered in 2022 by the Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad, involved serious financial misconduct during Hamid Jalil’s tenure as a postmaster. He was found guilty of making bogus entries in pension savings records, manipulating figures totaling more than Rs 252.96 million. The fraudulent activity caused substantial losses to the government and affected the integrity of the pension disbursement system.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) pursued the case with the legal proceedings spearheaded by Assistant Director Legal Muhammad Afzal. The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Shahzad Sarwar, while the final challan was presented in court by Inspector Fahad Iqbal. Their combined efforts led to the successful prosecution of one of the most serious corruption cases in recent memory, setting a precedent for accountability in public service.
