Punjab University is taking action against 12 teachers who allegedly absconded after receiving scholarships worth millions of rupees for PhD studies abroad. The university will write to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to recover the money and to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to block the identity cards and passports of the absconding teachers.
Out of 56 teachers who received grants, 12 did not join the university after completing their PhDs, violating the agreement that required them to serve for five years. The absconding teachers owe the university millions of rupees. Some notable cases include:
- Farah Sattar (GIS Center): absconded without paying Rs 70 lakh
- Syed Mohsin Ali (GIS Center): absconded without paying Rs 14 million
- Khwaja Khurram Khurshid (IQTM): absconded without paying Rs 84 million
- Usman Rahim (Center for Coal Technology): absconded without paying Rs 72 million
- Muhammad Nawaz (GIS): absconded without paying Rs 72 million
The university has already dismissed the 12 absconding teachers from service.
