Muhammad Shahbaz Leghari, CEO of Earthquake Quick News and Research Center (EQQN), believes that with government support, Pakistan can develop earthquake early warning devices to save lives and boost the economy through foreign exchange earnings. EQQN claims to have successfully predicted recent earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand three days in advance, with records available on their website and YouTube channel.
EQQN asserts it can predict earthquakes 128 hours in advance by observing the earth’s crust layer through scientific calculations. According to Leghari, the research center has been predicting earthquakes within a radius of 5,000 kilometers of Pakistan for a long time. For example, the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2025, which affected India, China, Bangladesh, and Thailand, was predicted three days in advance by EQQN.
Leghari emphasizes the need for government-level collaboration with Pakistan’s Seismological Center to publish predictions and ensure timely safety measures. He believes that official recognition and support from the government would enable EQQN to develop earthquake early warning devices and save lives. Leghari has appealed to Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chief of Army Staff, and President Asif Ali Zardari, to support EQQN’s work.
By developing earthquake early warning devices, Pakistan can potentially save lives worldwide and set a global record, earning foreign exchange and international recognition. Leghari claims that EQQN’s research center has already informed the embassy of Greece about upcoming earthquakes, and the record is available on their YouTube channel. He believes that with government support, EQQN can develop equipment and radars to predict earthquakes and provide timely warnings to people.
Countries like China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Israel already have earthquake early warning systems in place, while Mexico, the US, and Canada have regional systems. Leghari believes that Pakistan can learn from these countries and develop its own system with government support.
The development of earthquake early warning devices can have several benefits, including saving lives through timely warnings, economic benefits through foreign exchange earnings, and international recognition and cooperation. Leghari believes that EQQN’s work can also lead to the development of low-cost, IoT-based earthquake early warning systems using sensors and smartphone networks.
