Islamabad: According to Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) sources, the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) crisis has arisen due to the closure of the Iranian border.

According to OGRA sources, Pakistan imports 70 percent of LPG. 50 percent of the total LPG imports come from Iran.

According to OGRA sources, LPG prices have increased due to disruption in supply. If the Iranian border is not opened for LPG imports, the crisis is likely to worsen.

OGRA sources say that Pakistan imports LPG from Iran, Iraq and Oman. LPG is not coming from Oman and Iraq due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to OGRA sources, enforcement teams are taking action to recover the excess price of available LPG.

OGRA sources say that the average annual consumption of LPG in the country is 2.4 to 2.5 million tons. OGRA has fixed the price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder at Rs 3,296; however, LPG cylinders are being sold in the country at more than double the price.
