Islamabad: National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Rawalpindi Circle conducted a major operation against an international cyber fraud network and raided Abbasi Call Center established in a private society on Chakri Road and arrested several suspects.
According to the NCCIA spokesperson, a large number of computer systems, servers and mobile devices were seized from the call center during the operation and further investigation has been initiated.
According to the spokesperson, initial investigation has revealed that the arrested suspects were allegedly targeting Australian citizens with cyber fraud through fake Telegram profiles. The suspects used fake identities and various online sources to trap citizens in their net and later committed financial fraud.
According to NCCIA officials, the accused have also been found to have extorted millions of rupees from citizens in the name of fake YouTube tasks and USDT cryptocurrency investments. Forensic examination of digital devices and other evidence recovered from the arrested accused is being conducted, while the role of other people associated with the network is also being determined.
According to the spokesperson, after the operation, a case has been registered against the main accused, managers and team leaders, while further investigation of the case is underway. Officials say that the scope of the operation is likely to be further expanded and digital evidence is being scrutinized to reach other elements involved in cyber fraud.
DG NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi has said that they are following a zero-tolerance policy against cybercrime. Ensuring the lives and property of the public and digital security is the top priority of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency. He said that actions will be made more effective to protect citizens from online fraud and against networks involved in cybercrime at the international level.
