Lahore: Police have arrested former National Assembly Member and former Punjab PTI Chairman Hammad Azhar.
According to police sources, Hammad Azhar was arrested at a friend’s house near RA Bazaar and handed over to Lahore police. Police sources indicate that Hammad Azhar is implicated in several cases related to the events of May 9.
According to police sources, Hammad Azhar had been a fugitive since May 9, 2023. He came to public attention after the death of his father but then went into hiding. The Anti-Terrorism Court declared him a fugitive for failing to appear in court and issued a permanent arrest warrant.
Police sources reported that Hammad Azhar was handed over to the Investigation Division. He is also a defendant in more than 50 cases related to May 9. Hammad Azhar requested pretrial release on bail before the Lahore and Peshawar High Courts.
Following the filing of the charges, Hammad Azhar resigned from his position within the party. The PTI had entrusted Hammad Azhar with the responsibility of being Chairman of Punjab.
