New Delhi: Google Maps works as a great tool to locate a place or find the way there, but sometimes people blindly trust the Google Maps application, which later leads to various losses.
As there have been many news stories related to Google Maps, where a person reached an unknown location using this app or a person met with an accident due to Google Maps.
Meanwhile, recently, two French tourists who trusted Google Maps ended up in Bareilly district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh instead of going to Nepal.
According to Indian media reports, two French tourists were cycling from Delhi to Kathmandu but unfortunately got lost. They both accidentally reached near the Choreli Dam. Local villagers spotted them at night and took them to the nearby police station for help.
The police helped the lost cyclists by allowing them to spend the night at the village leader’s house. The next morning, they gave them instructions on how to get back on track and sent them off, showing them the right way.
Outer Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh said that French nationals Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastien Francois Gabriel had arrived in Delhi on a flight from France on January 7.
He said that the French tourists were supposed to travel from Pilibhit to Kathmandu in Nepal via Tankpur. However, Google Maps suggested an alternative route to the two foreigners. The app showed them a shortcut via Baheri in Bareilly, due to which they got lost and reached Choreli Dam.
Arun Kumar Singh said that when the villagers saw the two foreigners cycling on a deserted road at 11 pm on Thursday, they could not understand their language. To keep the two foreigners safe from any mishap, they took them to the Choreli police station.
When senior police officer Anurag Arya heard about the missing tourists, he spoke to the French nationals and asked his team to help guide them to their destination in Kathmandu.
